Make a Company

A note from Joanne

Welcome in. I'm really glad you're here.

If you're reading this, you've taken the first step that most people only talk about — you've started making something of your own. That's not a small thing. That's the whole thing, really. Everything that follows is just paying attention and not stopping.

Make a Company exists for one reason: starting a company shouldn't require you to already know how to start a company. The forms, the filings, the first website, the first customer email, the boring-but-load-bearing scaffolding — we want all of that to feel less like a wall and more like a hallway you can just walk down.

You don't need a perfect idea today. You don't need a co-founder, a deck, or a name you're sure about. You need a quiet place to begin and someone who isn't going to flinch when you ask the obvious questions. That's what this is. Ask the obvious questions. We'll answer them, and then we'll answer the next ones too.

However far you get — a side project that pays for dinner, a real company, or just the clarity that this particular idea wasn't the one — I want you to leave here with momentum you didn't have when you arrived.

So: take a breath. Open the next tab. Let's make a company.
